Teldoc Australia Telehealth FAQ’s

What is Teldoc Australia and how is it different from Teladoc or other services?

Teldoc Australia is an independent, fully Australian-owned telehealth provider focused on affordable, quick-access GP care for Aussies. We’re not affiliated with the US-based Teladoc Health (or its Australian arm) or similar-named competitors like Teledoc. Our strengths: local FRACGP doctors, bulk billing for eligible patients, appointments often within 15 minutes, and a genuine focus on privacy and convenience—no overseas call centres.

What services can I get through Teldoc telehealth consultations?

Our AHPRA-registered GPs handle a wide range via secure video/phone: General health issues (colds, flu, infections, skin rashes, back pain, etc.)
Sexual health (STI checks, contraception, ED/PE advice, HIV prevention)
Urinary tract infections (UTIs), respiratory issues, and more
Mental health support (assessments, scripts, limited Mental Health Care Plans where eligible)
Electronic prescriptions (eScripts), medical certificates, specialist referrals, pathology/radiology requests We cannot manage chronic disease plans, workers’ comp forms, or restricted/controlled medications—always confirm during your consult.

How much does a Teldoc telehealth appointment cost?

Transparent flat fees: Standard consultations start from $49 (video or phone). Weekend/public holiday rates may apply (e.g., $69 around Christmas/New Year—check pricing page). Bulk billing (zero out-of-pocket) is available for eligible patients. No hidden fees; see full details on our Pricing page.

Who qualifies for bulk billing (free consultations) with Teldoc?

Yes, bulk billing is available with a valid Medicare card for: Babies and children under 12 months
Patients experiencing homelessness
Sexual health consultations (where privacy concerns or limited local GP access exist)
Pregnancy-related consultations (concession card required)
Select mental health items (e.g., under specific MBS rules) For others, private fees apply but we can submit Medicare claims where rebates exist. Always verify eligibility on our Pricing page before booking.

Can I get a Medicare rebate if it’s not bulk billed?

In 2026, Medicare rebates for standard telehealth are limited for non-eligible cases, but you may qualify for $41–$106 rebates in specific scenarios (e.g., homelessness, certain sexual health or mental health items). We can submit claims directly or provide a receipt for you to claim. Check our Pricing page or ask during booking for the latest MBS item details.

Can Teldoc doctors issue medical certificates online?

Yes—if your condition warrants it and it’s clinically appropriate, our doctors can email a digital medical certificate (sick note) right after your consultation. Accepted by most employers and schools in Australia. Just mention the need (e.g., duration, general reason) during the appoint—no extra charge for the certificate.

Do you provide online prescriptions, and what can be prescribed?

Yes—eScripts are sent directly to your phone/pharmacy if appropriate after assessment. Common examples: Antibiotics for UTIs, skin/respiratory infections
Contraceptives (oral, emergency)
Repeat scripts for hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes, asthma
Smoking cessation aids Restrictions: No S4D/S8 controlled drugs, strong opioids, certain sleeping tablets, weight-loss meds (e.g., semaglutide), or items needing in-person monitoring. Doctors follow TGA/PBS guidelines—discuss your needs openly.

Can I get treatment for UTIs, sexual health issues, or COVID-19 online?

Absolutely: UTIs → Diagnosis, advice, and prescriptions if suitable.
Sexual health → STI screening advice, treatments, contraception, ED/PE options; bulk billing often applies for privacy reasons.
COVID-19 → Assessment and antivirals if eligible under PBS rules. Book a general consult and describe symptoms—our doctors will guide you.

How does a Teldoc telehealth consultation actually work?

Simple 4-step process: Book online (select time, fill short symptom form).
Join securely via video or phone—no app needed, works on phone/computer.
Consult with an Australian GP (most within 15 min wait).
Receive eScript, certificate, referral, or advice emailed instantly if appropriate. Fully encrypted and private.

Are Teldoc consultations secure and private?

Yes—100% compliant with Australian privacy laws (including My Health Records standards), AHPRA guidelines, and encrypted video/phone tech. Your data stays in Australia with strict access controls.

What are your opening hours and wait times?

Open 9 AM–7 PM Sydney time, 7 days a week (including weekends/public holidays). Most appointments available within 15 minutes during operating hours—book anytime via the site.

Can Teldoc help with mental health concerns?

Yes—our GPs assess anxiety, depression, stress, sleep issues, etc., and can: Provide advice and scripts where appropriate
Create limited Mental Health Care Plans (eligible for bulk billing/rebates in qualifying cases, e.g., homelessness)
Refer to psychologists/psychiatrists Be open during consult; we prioritise safe, evidence-based care.

Do you offer pathology or radiology referrals?

Yes—if needed, doctors can email requests for blood tests, urine, imaging (X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI). Results go to us; book a follow-up to discuss.

Can I claim private health insurance for Teldoc services?

Possibly—get a receipt after consult and check with your fund for extras rebates on telehealth/GP items. Coverage varies by policy.

Why do you need credit card details even for bulk-billed appointments?

To secure the slot—we only charge if you no-show or aren’t eligible for bulk billing (e.g., $49 weekday/$69 weekend fee). No charge for attended, eligible bulk-billed consults.

What happens if I need test results reviewed?

Pathology/radiology results come to us. Book a follow-up consultation (often short) to discuss—doctor can explain, adjust treatment, or send copies after review.

Is Teldoc suitable for children or pregnancy?

Yes—bulk billing often applies for under-12-months or pregnancy (concession card needed). Doctors assess appropriately via telehealth; in-person may be recommended for complex cases.

Can overseas visitors or non-Medicare holders use Teldoc?

Yes—private fees apply (from $49). We welcome travellers/FIFO workers; no Medicare rebate, but convenient Australia-wide access.

What can’t Teldoc help with via telehealth?

Emergencies (call 000), in-person exams (e.g., physical checks), chronic disease management plans, workers’ comp paperwork, restricted/controlled meds, or anything needing hands-on assessment. Our doctors will refer onward if required.

Is this FAQ up to date for 2026 telehealth rules?

Yes—regularly reviewed by our Medical Review Board (including FRACGP GPs and specialists) to match current Medicare/PBS/TGA/AHPRA guidelines as of February 2026. Rules can change, so check our site or book if unsure.
