Teldoc Australia Telehealth FAQ’s
What is Teldoc Australia and how is it different from Teladoc or other services?
Teldoc Australia is an independent, fully Australian-owned telehealth provider focused on affordable, quick-access GP care for Aussies. We’re not affiliated with the US-based Teladoc Health (or its Australian arm) or similar-named competitors like Teledoc. Our strengths: local FRACGP doctors, bulk billing for eligible patients, appointments often within 15 minutes, and a genuine focus on privacy and convenience—no overseas call centres.
What services can I get through Teldoc telehealth consultations?
Our AHPRA-registered GPs handle a wide range via secure video/phone: General health issues (colds, flu, infections, skin rashes, back pain, etc.)
Sexual health (STI checks, contraception, ED/PE advice, HIV prevention)
Urinary tract infections (UTIs), respiratory issues, and more
Mental health support (assessments, scripts, limited Mental Health Care Plans where eligible)
Electronic prescriptions (eScripts), medical certificates, specialist referrals, pathology/radiology requests We cannot manage chronic disease plans, workers’ comp forms, or restricted/controlled medications—always confirm during your consult.
How much does a Teldoc telehealth appointment cost?
Transparent flat fees: Standard consultations start from $49 (video or phone). Weekend/public holiday rates may apply (e.g., $69 around Christmas/New Year—check pricing page). Bulk billing (zero out-of-pocket) is available for eligible patients. No hidden fees; see full details on our Pricing page.
Who qualifies for bulk billing (free consultations) with Teldoc?
Yes, bulk billing is available with a valid Medicare card for: Babies and children under 12 months
Patients experiencing homelessness
Sexual health consultations (where privacy concerns or limited local GP access exist)
Pregnancy-related consultations (concession card required)
Select mental health items (e.g., under specific MBS rules) For others, private fees apply but we can submit Medicare claims where rebates exist. Always verify eligibility on our Pricing page before booking.
Can I get a Medicare rebate if it’s not bulk billed?
In 2026, Medicare rebates for standard telehealth are limited for non-eligible cases, but you may qualify for $41–$106 rebates in specific scenarios (e.g., homelessness, certain sexual health or mental health items). We can submit claims directly or provide a receipt for you to claim. Check our Pricing page or ask during booking for the latest MBS item details.
Can Teldoc doctors issue medical certificates online?
Yes—if your condition warrants it and it’s clinically appropriate, our doctors can email a digital medical certificate (sick note) right after your consultation. Accepted by most employers and schools in Australia. Just mention the need (e.g., duration, general reason) during the appoint—no extra charge for the certificate.
Do you provide online prescriptions, and what can be prescribed?
Yes—eScripts are sent directly to your phone/pharmacy if appropriate after assessment. Common examples: Antibiotics for UTIs, skin/respiratory infections
Contraceptives (oral, emergency)
Repeat scripts for hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes, asthma
Smoking cessation aids Restrictions: No S4D/S8 controlled drugs, strong opioids, certain sleeping tablets, weight-loss meds (e.g., semaglutide), or items needing in-person monitoring. Doctors follow TGA/PBS guidelines—discuss your needs openly.
Can I get treatment for UTIs, sexual health issues, or COVID-19 online?
Absolutely: UTIs → Diagnosis, advice, and prescriptions if suitable.
Sexual health → STI screening advice, treatments, contraception, ED/PE options; bulk billing often applies for privacy reasons.
